Why Tulsi plant dies at home

Having the Tulsi plant at home is very important, as the Tulsi plant is a natural ayurvedic plant, and beneficial to us in many ways also the Tulsi plant leaves can be directly eaten or it can be mixed in tea if we have a cough or cold.

Why does the Tulsi plant die within 2 to 3 months?

The Tulsi plant is an outdoor plant and loves to grow in sunlight, maintaining a healthy tulsi plant is very important as the tulsi plant can get damaged easily with excess water and wet soil may increase fungus in the soil and this will make the tulsi plant die. Also, the tulsi plant will die if it doesn't get enough sunlight.

How to water the Tulsi plant? Daily or occasionally

The most important point is how to water the Tulsi plant and what happens if given in excess, Tulsi plant is an outdoor plant and requires at least 4 to 5 hours of sunlight if not given then the Tulsi plant may die, So now how to give water

  1. Summer Season - The water requirement in the summer season is very high as the sunlight evaporates much of the water from the soil, i.e. giving water every day of after 2 days depending upon the condition of the soil.
  2. Winter Season - The water requirement in the winter season is much less as the water remains in the soil for a longer period.
  3. Rainy Season - Water requirement is only if rainfall has skipped for a week.

So the conclusion is that the requirement for water is very low and plants must get at least 4-5 hours of sunlight for proper growth and development.

We can also do mulching in the summer season so that the water does not evaporate easily but we have to remove all the left-out particles of mulching in the winter season.

Pest attack on Tulsi plant

This can be the main reason for the tulsi plant to die easily as the pest or insects will directly attack the leaves of the tulsi plant, and if the leaves get damaged the plant will not survive.

How to care tulsi plant: Always be ready with the pest control item i.e. having a spray of organic or chemical mix, organic spray take time but will give result also the chemical spray will show result but it may harm our tulsi plant so both option are available.

Organic spray can be done with neem oil spray which is easily available or we can self-made the spray at home by boiling the fresh neem leaf in water and collecting the neem water, also we can make chilly garlic mix from our kitchen and can use it in by mixing in the water.

Chemical spray will give the result very fast and effectively but may harm the soil or plant also if the quantity is given more then definitely we will get the best result, so always use chemical fertilizer if we have lots of experience in gardening.

How to Care Tulsi in the Winter Season

Tulsi plant care in the winter season is the most important because most of the tulsi plants die off in this season tulsi plants love the hot climate but the cold climate will make tulsi plant branches & leaves turn black and die.

So always remember to give limited water and also to keep the tulsi plant in direct sunlight for at least 4-6 hours. We can also cover the tulsi plant with cotton clothes if fog is directly hitting the tulsi plant.

What to do if we live in an apartment or complex and no direct sunlight comes, the simple solution is that we have to give less water and always keep the plant in a place where it can get maximum light, the best place is a window or near the door or else we can keep in open balcony.

How to propagate Tulsi plant

It can be done in two ways i.e. from seeds and by cuttings

1] Grow Tulsi from seeds

Growing the tulsi plant from seeds is very easy if want then watch the video on top, or else continue reading, we have to collect the seeds from the seed pot developed at the top of the tulsi plant, it must be dry enough for germination else the wet seeds will not so the germination.

The soil mixture will be 50% soil and 50 % coco-peat, this mixture will give 100% germination only when moisture is maintained and the seeds do not feel the dryness in soil.

2] Tulsi plant From cutting

Yes tulsi plant can be grown from cutting and they can be grown only in the rainy season as the tulsi plant cutting require lots of moisture to develop roots.

Best pot for tulsi plant and soil mix

Pot selection for the tulsi plant is as important as the selection of soil mix so always go for a more drainage hole pot and also choose the soil mix with a better drainage property i.e. a mix of sand in the tulsi plant soil is good this will only make the tulsi plant survive for a longer period time.

Pruning Tulsi plant

tulsi plant

The Tulsi plant requires trimming and pruning regularly because, after a certain period, it will grow a seed pot at the top and will produce seeds after the seed pot develops tulsi plant will think that the production of seeds has been done so it will die, the best time to prune tulsi plant is when it starts developing seeds pot when they are green in colour cut just 1 inch below the seeds pot area it will lead the tulsi plant to develop new shoots and will get new healthy bushy tulsi plant.

Conclusion

The final words on the tulsi plant or the conclusion is that the tulsi plant will do best in hot or summer type of climates and also grow best in the rainy season, propagating will be 100% successful in the rainy season, but if the climate or the temperature is cold or below 10 degrees then the tulsi pant will not survive and if the tulsi plant gets enough sunlight then it may do better.
